In a beautiful forest pond where water sparkled like diamonds, lived a small green frog named Froggy. He spent his days hopping between lily pads and splashing in the tide pools near the edge of his pond.
One chilly morning, while Froggy was swimming, he heard a strange sound.
CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH.
Froggy peeked over the edge of his tide pool and saw a large, black furry creature with big feet and friendly eyes. It was a Yeti!
“Hello there!” called Froggy. “Are you okay?”
The Black Yeti looked around until he spotted the tiny green frog.
“Oh! Hello,” said the Yeti in a deep, gentle voice. “I’m far from my snowy mountain home, and I’m very hot in all this fur.”
“You can cool off in my tide pool,” offered Froggy. “The water is nice and refreshing.”
The Yeti dipped his big furry feet into the water and sighed with relief.
“Thank you, little friend. My name is Bumble,” said the Yeti.
“I’m Froggy!” replied the small green frog. “Why are you so far from your mountain?”
Bumble explained that he had been following a rainbow when he got lost in the forest. Now he didn’t know how to get back to his snowy mountain.
“I can help you!” said Froggy. “I know this forest very well.”
Every day, Froggy and Bumble would meet at the tide pool. Froggy would give Bumble directions back to the mountains, and Bumble would share stories about his snowy home.
As the weeks passed, something magical began to happen to Froggy. His skin became harder, like a shell. His legs grew shorter and stronger. Even his face started to change!
“Bumble!” he called one morning. “Something strange is happening to me!”
Bumble rushed to the tide pool and gasped. “Froggy, you’re turning into a turtle!”
It was true! Froggy had transformed into a small green turtle with a patterned shell. “This is amazing!” said Froggy, admiring his new shell. “I feel different, but still like myself.”
Froggy – now a turtle – and Bumble continued their friendship. But as the days grew warmer, Bumble became more uncomfortable in the heat.
One particularly hot day, Froggy found Bumble lying near the tide pool, breathing heavily.
“Bumble! Are you okay?” asked Froggy, concerned for his friend.
“Too… hot…” mumbled Bumble. “Can’t… move…”
Froggy knew he had to help his friend. But in his worry, he didn’t watch where he was going. He wandered onto a sunny rock and soon became too hot himself. His little turtle legs wouldn’t move!
“Oh no!” cried Froggy. “Now we’re both stuck!”
Just then, they heard footsteps through the forest.
A forest ranger was walking by, looking for animals that might need help during the hot weather.
But the ranger didn’t see little Froggy on the rock. Before Froggy could move, the ranger accidentally stepped on the edge of his shell!
“Ouch!” cried Froggy.
The ranger looked down in surprise. “Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry, little turtle!”
Gently, the ranger picked up Froggy and placed him back in the cool water. Then the ranger noticed Bumble.
“A Yeti! So far from the mountains!” The ranger immediately called for help on a special radio.
Soon, a helicopter arrived. Kind people carefully lifted Bumble into it, with Froggy riding along in a small container of pond water.
Up they flew, over the forest and toward the snow-capped mountains. As they got higher, the air became cooler. Bumble began to feel better, and so did Froggy.
When they reached the snowy mountains, Bumble was so happy he did a little dance.
“Thank you for being my friend, Froggy,” said Bumble. “You helped me when I was lost.”
“And you kept me company at my pond,” replied Froggy. “Friends help each other!”
The rangers created a special home for Froggy in a cool mountain stream near Bumble’s cave. There, Froggy could swim and bask safely in the gentle mountain sun. And every day, Bumble the Black Yeti would visit his small turtle friend, dipping his toes in the stream while they shared stories of the forest pond and the snowy mountains.
No matter what changes came their way, Froggy and Bumble knew that true friendship remains the same.
